Steve Steve has quickly made his mark as an energetic, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic mentor to his athletes. It would be hard, perhaps impossible, to spend any time around Steve and not be caught up in his passion for athletics.
A passion which is reflected in his coaching philosophy:
"Champions are made on the inside, it starts from the heart and from the way they think. Talent, Toughness and Determination are strong tools that help a champion succeed."

"I believe in a positive environment that has the athlete's best interests at heart."

"I believe each person is an individual and you need to understand their endurance level, strength level, speed level and most importantly their mindset."

"I believe you need to set goals that are specific to each athlete."

"I believe in sport being fun and never want my athletes to lose touch with that."

"I love to coach distance running because I love the challenge required to be a successful distance runner."

In addition, Steve currently holds a NCCP Level III National Coaching Certification in Distance and has just recently completed his Level III National Coaching Certification in Sprints as well. Steve is currently working on obtaining his Level IV in Distance.

Steve is on his way to establishing one of the strongest Middle and Long Distance programs in the country. Over the last five years he has produced over 20 individual Provincial Champions, 2 Provincial Team Champions, 3 National Medalists and 1 National Champion. In 2008, he had 2 Spartan athletes compete for Team Canada at the 2008 World Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh Scotland.
