Coach Richard Gallimore

Program:

Athlete Development

Calgary Spartans is pleased to welcome Richard Gallimore as an Assistant Coach for Athlete Development.

A former track and field athlete born and raised in Calgary, Coach Richard is no stranger to the Spartans, having trained and competed with them in track and field beginning in Grade 10. Richard ran all sprint races from the 60m (indoors) to the 400m events. In his first year he placed first in the 200m at City Championships with a time of 23.69, following up with a 5th at Provincials. In 2009, at the indoor provincials he raced to a bronze medal in the 60m and a silver medal in the 200m. Richard’s PB’s include a 23.2 in the 200m and a 50.81 in the grueling 400m race.

Coach Richard’s educational background includes two years of Physical Education at Mount Royal University before transferring to the University of Calgary where he finished a degree in Kinesiology. A hamstring injury in late 2013 put him out of commission although he was able to train with the University of Calgary Dinos in 2014-2015, competing only once due to injury.

While new to coaching, Coach Richard is shadowing Coach Rohan Simms this year & will be taking the NCCP course this fall. As a former athlete, Coach Richard understands it is important for athletes to feel they are improving so they are motivated to keep training. He also recognize, however, that when kids are having fun they tend to stick with the sport longer.

Coach Richard’s goal as an assistant coach is to learn as much as he can from all of the other Calgary Spartan Coaches and to have the younger athletes improve their skills while also having fun. Please join the Club in welcoming Richard Gallimore back to the Spartans in his new role!
