Distance (800m to Marathon)
NCCP Sport Coach (trained)
Jill grew up in Toronto and became interested in running from a young age. In 1996 she won her age category at the City of Toronto Cross Country Championships and later that same school year won her age category in the 800 meters at the city championships. In following years Jill continued pursuing her running passion and competed in several racing distances ranging from 800m, 1500m, 5K and 10K as a member of the University of Toronto Track Club in their Junior Development Program as well as representing her high school track and cross country teams.
From there Jill attended the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and earned a degree in Mining Engineering which lead to employment in Fort McMurray in 2007. She joined the Northern Lights Triathlon Club and raced in several triathlons and running races, often with high place finishes. In 2010 Jill placed 2nd at the Alberta Provincial Sprint Triathlon Championships which qualified her to represent Team Canada at the 2011 Dextro ITU World Triathlon Championships where she placed 17th in her age category.
Jill, her husband and two young children moved to Calgary in 2017. She continues to pursue her passion for running by competing in 10Ks, half-marathons, and various trail race distances. She still loves the adrenaline rush at the start line just before the gun goes off!
While in Fort McMurray Jill informally coached kids aged 6-14 as part of the “Kids of Steel” triathlon program. Jill also co-founded and co-organized the Wood Buffalo Trail Running Series from 2012-2016 in Fort McMurray. The series consisted of 3 races annually that attracted between 150-200 runners at each race and also included a kids race program.
Now settled in Calgary, Jill is eager to branch out into the formal realm of coaching young athletes. Coming up through a junior program herself she understands the value and opportunities they can offer young athletes. She understands what is important and recognizes the benefits of a meaningful athlete/coach relationship. Jill brings her energy, passion, positivity, and encouragement to the Calgary Spartans!
