Come and find the champion within you!

Originally from Montreal, Stewart was part of the Saint Lambert Track Club, running the 100 meters and the 4 x 100m relay.  Later, after completing an exercise mechanics and aerobics certificate, he set up, owned and operated a women’s only body building gym.  Through motivation and coaching he provided personal training to clients wanting to change their lives in a positive and healthy way.  Stewart is currently completing his Personal Trainer course with the American Council on Exercise (ACE).

Stewart has a passion for working with young kids.  Working as a youth leader in a faith based organization in Montreal, he was instrumental in starting a youth program to get inner city kids off the streets.

Stewart believes that the first basic skill is to believe in yourself.  By participating in running, jumping and throwing, athletic skills will grow over time.  “We need to make small wins in our lives, and those add up to big wins in the world!”

In working with young athletes and coaching them in the Athletics Canada Run-Jump-Throw program, Stewart has the following goals:

  • Build a foundation of basic fundamental motor skills of run-jump-throw in young athletes both for athletics and as a basis for all other sports
  • Focus on skill development and working in teams through a fun approach (active games, relays, etc.)
  • Help the body get stronger and develop speed, balance, power and endurance. Building self-esteem in young athletes through physical literacy.
  • Introduce young athletes to a variety of events including sprints, distance running, hurdles, high and long jump, shot put and discus and team events such as relays
  • Develop motivation to have fun in physical fitness and workouts

On a personal note, Stewart is the proud father of four adult sons, three of which live here in Calgary.  He is also a motivational speaker and is looking forward to the opportunity of giving back and making a difference in the lives of young athletes in our club.
