Following his successful athletic career Greg began coaching for the Spartans; bringing an extensive array of athletic experience to those he coaches. Greg competed in Track & Field for 20 years, spending 10 of those years as a decathlete working with some of the most notable coaching names in the sport in recent decades including George Gemer, Larry Steinke, Les Gramantik and Rich Hesketh.
Greg is a two-time Canada West Conference champion, winning and breaking the pentathlon record both times, a feat that earned him two awards for “Outstanding Male Athlete.” At the national level in university, he won a bronze and two silver medals in pentathlon, as well as a bronze and a silver medal in decathlon. He has won multiple Alberta provincial championships and was named Athlete of the Year upon graduating from the University of Lethbridge.
When it comes to coaching, Greg emphasizes the importance of striking a balance between keeping it simple and having the work ethic to succeed. Hailing from Lethbridge, Greg competed in the sport at a time when there wasn’t much to work with in terms of facilities or funding. But he says that “if you really want to succeed in athletics, you will put in the commitment and hard work to make things happen”.
Our Athlete Coordinator will be pleased to welcome you to the Calgary Spartans, help you find the right coach and program, advise you on what to bring to the track and answer any questions you may have.
Any changes to the schedule will be communicated by Coach Llew to all group members.
