Indoor: Athlete Development (U14, U16, Masters)

Ages:

  • Under-10 (Born 2017/2018)
  • Under-12 (Born 2015/2016)
  • Under-14 (Born 2013/2014)

Events:

  • U14 Multi-Events (Includes Sprints, Hurdles, Middle Distance, Long Jump, High
    Jump, Shot Put)
  • U16 Multi-Events [1]
  • U16 Sprints
  • Master Sprints
[1] It’s recommended that U16 multi-event athletes that want to compete in Pentathlons
join our Sprints/Hurdles/Jumps (U16 and Older). They can work with a variety of
Coaches & also come to some Distance (U16 and Older) practices that are at the same
    Oval facilities.
A U16 Multi-Eventer CAN join our Athlete Development group, just note that we don’t
have a long jump pit, we use a springboard landing onto some soft mats. These mats
are more-so designed for elementary/junior high kids to land on, though around age 14+
the average boy is generally too big to safely land on these mats.

Coaches: Richard Gallimore

Description:

This group has two main focuses.
For U14 athletes the focus is on athletes increasing their confidence & competence in
all event types (Sprints, Distance, Jumps, & Throws). The bigger track meets for this
age have athletes competing in “Tetrathlons” where an athlete will do one Sprint, one
Distance, one Jump, & one Throwing event & be given points for each event based on
how well they did (total score will be the athletes overall placing). Some meets may
have individual event entry where athletes may pick & choose what they do. Second
year U14 athletes we are preparing to transition into one of the U16+ older groups the
following year, with lots of experience in multiple event types, these athletes will likely
know what they want to do the next year (stay as a multi-eventer moving from
“Tetrathlons” to the U16 “Pentathlons”, or specialize in Throws, Jumps, Sprints, Hurdles,
Distance, or a combination of any of the above). The in-person training is two days a
week, & an at-home workout will be sent out every Thursday.
This Athlete Development group is also for newer U16/Masters Sprinters. U16/Master
Sprinters will primarily train with Coach Richard (Club Coach Sprints & Hurdles –
Certified). For the Indoor Season in person sprint training is two days a week, & an at-
home general strength workout will be sent out every Thursday. This program helps
athletes transition from being beginners to intermediates & prepares them for the more
demanding 3-4 days/week our 16+ group does in the Outdoor Season.
In the Outdoor Season U16/Master Sprinters and multi-eventers will go to the
Sprints/Hurdles/Jumps (U16 and Older) Program.

  • Tuesday/Saturday: Jack Simpson Gym (University of Calgary 2500 University Dr NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1N4)
