Officiating

Organizing the track meets for our athletes requires many volunteers including Officials. Officials are the referees responsible for judging the various events within track and field.

The Calgary Spartans believe that as a club, we have a responsibility to support recruiting new Officials to ensure meets are staffed with these important volunteers.

We encourage parents and family members of athletes to fulfill their Volunteer commitments to the Spartans and to train to become an Official.

How to become an Official:

  • Volunteer at meets;
  • Speak to one of the head officials – they can advise on how to become an Official;
  • Get a record card and keep track of your volunteering hours;
  • Attend Officials clinics;
  • Submit record cards to Athletics Alberta to become a Graded Official

There are five levels of Officials. Clinics are held on an ongoing basis. The Spartans will advise parents when and where clinics are being held if they choose to go.

Upgrading reviews take place periodically throughout the year for those who would like to become a Graded Official.
